Thank You For Your TG Service! - uwshoward98

In this instalment of our 'Thank you for your TG service!'  I am interviewing Warrant Officer uwshoward98. He is currently Squad Leader of Tomcats(ST) in the Battlefield Division. uwshoward98 has been a member of Tactical Gaming since March 2014.

TG SmokeyB: Who within TG has been one of your biggest influences?
uwshoward98:  I'd have to say TG Kacy2k and TG WarRellik are two people I have to thank for where I am in TG today. They were my CoC when I moved up to squad staff and they were incredibly patient with me. I made a jump from SA to SL way before I was ready for the responsibility and they were always willing to give advice/help whenever I needed it.

TG SmokeyB: Why do you enjoy your division?
uwshoward98:  The people are what make it great. As a division we are always expanding and it's a very welcome environment.

TG SmokeyB: What are you most looking forward to within TG?
uwshoward98:  I'm really looking forward to participating in and creating some large scale TG operations once BF5 is given private servers. With the ability to move artillery and build fortifications I believe we will be able to create some awesome scenarios.

TG SmokeyB: Describe your leadership style and why?
uwshoward98:  I like to keep things casual within my squad. In our weekly practices we put our primary focus onto enjoying the game. If we win that's just an added bonus. In Tomcats it is understood that we can cut up and have fun as much as we want as long as the squad buckles down and gets serious when it is asked of them.

TG SmokeyB: If you had one game that you would love to see in TG what would that be?
uwshoward98:  I would love to see a legion created within TA for The Elder Scrolls Online.

TG SmokeyB: What is the best thing about Tactical Gaming that keeps you here?
uwshoward98:  In all honesty it's just nice to feel like you're a part of something bigger. I know that sounds rather cliché but it's cool to feel like you've helped contribute to something that's not only larger but evolving and expanding. I've met a lot of cool people while being in TG and they're friendships that last.

TG SmokeyB:  What would you say to any member who wants to move up the CoC?
uwshoward98: Don't be afraid to ask questions and reach out to other staff/CoC members. We're all here to build each other up and make an amazing community. Also in the case of SS shape your squad the way you want it. At the core squads are all the same but they all have their own personalities. If you look at our current lineup and feel something is missing fill the gap don't be afraid to be different!

TG SmokeyB: What is the funniest thing you've ever done in your time with TG or any game for that matter?
uwshoward98:  TG once had an Op on BF4 where we had to protect a VIP, but the catch was the VIP got to move around where ever he wanted to. He kept putting himself in danger  so one of my SM's recommended we push him up against a wall with a riot shield for his own safety. So a couple of our members caught him in a corner and pushed him into it. The issue was friendly fire was on so when they shield bashed him into the corner they actually killed him. Thankfully it didn't cost us the Op. and they allowed him to re-spawn but that was where Tomcats got the reputation of being unconventional to say the least.

Thanks for taking the time to participate uwshoward98!
A special thank you to TGxLadicius for letting this interview enter his 'Thanks For Your TG Service' series. Appricate the support!

Battlefield V or Call of Duty: Black Ops 4?

Black Ops 4 or BF5?
There is a lot of controversy between buying Battlefield V or Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. This not a report on which one you should buy, it’s the pros and cons for both games.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 jumped into the Call of Duty franchise with thrust-jumping, and wall running. With Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, we see this everlasting series run into a far more interesting terrain and it doesn’t even have a campaign (which is is big step for Call of Duty)! New game mode such, as Treyarch and Blackout, are becoming robust in the Call of Duty series. Blackout acts as a nice tribute to to everything in the Black Ops series, combined with adding new innovations to both Zombies and multiplayer.
A lot of changes have came to Black Ops 4, such as the lack of the classic, well known campaign! For some, this is disappointing but to some they get along just fine. Zombies came in with a meaty start, with three new maps and game modes.
Unfortunately Black Ops 4 has a basket full of technical issues spreading among each of its modes. Theatre mode crashes frequently however Treyarch has been staying on top of these issues, continuously updating it’s blog with which bugs and glitches they are fixing. Another issue is that teaming up with friends in Blackout doesn’t always work right.

Since 2002’s Battlefield 1942, the Battlefield franchise has grew a lot. The multiplayer first-person shooter that featured vehicles and large scale maps unlike players have ever seen before. Since it came out, the Battlefield franchise has blown up and expanded with Battlefield Vietnam, BF 2, BF 2142 and quite a bit more. It has grown more destructive, especially with the “levolution” feature.
2016’s Battlefield 1 gave the Battlefield franchise a more serious tone, looking at World War One. The definitely had to be careful with the features. This year, Battlefield returns with the all new Battlefield V, looking at World War Two.
Battlefield V maps are gigantic, but are they too big? Maybe perfect for planes and vehicles but what about infantry? Battlefield V is fast paced, reminding Battlefield “veterans” and past players of Battlefield 4. Clearly, you run a lot faster than in Battlefield 1 and there are a lot of new player animations.
War stories have returned in BFV, and instead of playing with the more renown battles such as Normandy or Stalingrad, but lesser known aspects of the global conflict, which to some people is a turn off. A lot of people who played the campaign early didn’t like the campaign as they thought it was too plain and just “fighty fighty”.
The game is a lot faster than previous games, such as movement. This may put off Battlefield veterans as they think of the series as a realistic franchise. It may take a while to be adjust to the speed but once you get used to it, it’s pretty powerful and deadly.

Tell us your thoughts on these 2 games, which do you like better?

Battlefield V Review

BATTLEFIELD V REVIEW

So it's finally here!
The much anticipated game BATTLEFIELD V was supposed to be released in the month of October. However, due to what I can imagine is some issue with the game and release, DICE and EA decided to release a month later. November soon came around and the release for the deluxe edition was 15.11.18. The standard edition was released 20.11.18. I'm sure the servers will be full to bursting with enthusiastic players hoping to fall in love with the new game of their favourite franchise!

Their have been plenty of reviews over the last few days regarding BFV. Some were good, a few were quite negative. Personally my view is that this game is in a different direction compared to Battlefield 1 and in fact more similar to Battlefield 4 than anything else, it's a faster paced game and not only that, one of the most historically accurate games regarding world war 2 as the war stories are well written. I asked a few of my squad mates in the Vikings squad of the Xbox One division and the majority of responses were positive and quite enthusiastic in terms of the game play. The main point was that squad cohesion and overall teamwork is the absolute key to success! The final change that seemed to be well received was the weapons and character customisation!

I asked IamJokerI, the executive officer of 2nd battalion, Battlefield division his thoughts on the game, he said:

"As someone who has played every Battlefield title at or shortly after release since BF2. For me BFV in its current form lies somewhere between absolutely brilliant and ridiculously broken. The major changes to gun mechanics and noticeable changes to the core mechanics, have in my opinion made the game better than it has ever in many respects. But as with all Battlefield titles since the beginning of time itself, it comes complete with a plethora of potentially game breaking bugs (from bells hanging in the air after the destruction of a church, to you being stuck at spawn unable to move or even being revived under a seemingly indestructible table and therefore trapped)".

"All in all. BFV is an extremely fun game regardless of bugs with a lot of new mechanics to adapt to and learn. It feels somewhat half baked in terms of content, but this was entirely expected given their "Roadmap" of future releases. It does however have solid foundations in place to be an amazing Battlefield title for years to come. That is assuming patches and future releases don't break more than they fix in typical battlefield fashion".

alot of people have said similar things to joker, however there are a few that have said pretty much the opposite.
I asked some of the staff members at a store in the UK called GAME they also had mixed views on the game. One member of staff specifically said that he was "dissatisfied with the historical accuracy" and how the mechanics of the game functioned. He felt the game was extremely "clunky and to similar to cod"

What are your thoughts?
Call of duty or Battlefield?

Red Dead Redemption 2 Review

Red Dead Redemption 2 -The Review
Note: This review pertains only to the single-player campaign.
Released on October 26th, 2018 Red Dead Redemption II (RDR2) is one of the most highly anticipated games of the year. Set before the events of the original Red Dead Redemption, RDR2 takes place in 1899 in Rockstar’s version of the United States. For example, the city of Saint Denis is based on New Orleans (there is even mention of the bayou) which is in Lemoyne, an American territory.
The main protagonist in RDR2 is Arthur Morgan who is an outlaw, and important figurehead, in the Van der Linde gang. The game tells the story of the struggles of the gang’s survival against a rival gang the O’Driscolls, the Pinkerton detective agency, and a seemingly shrinking Wild West. Main story line aside, you have the opportunity to do a wide variety of side quests and your decisions will change your reputation, either for good or for bad. That’s right, Arthur Morgan can become known as a soft-hearted criminal or a ruthless killer and some people will react accordingly.
One of the greatest features of RDR2 is its bigger, open world from the predecessor of RDR. There are swamps (watch out for the gators!), grasslands, snowy mountains, forests and so much more. There are small, wannabe resort towns, like Strawberry and a beautiful French inspired city called Saint Denis. While you can absolutely go ahead and explore the vastness of the world on your own, the game does a great job at slowly introducing you to those areas through the quest line.

The attention to detail that Rockstar put into this game is revolutionary. Some of these details include (but is NOT limited to): Arthur will gain/lose weight depending on how often (and how much) he eats, his hair will grow, your hat will almost always get knocked off in a fight, weapons get dirty over time, dead animals decompose, oh and your horse poops.
Pros
Graphics (scenery, facial movement, etc)         Rockstar’s attention to detail         Open world exploration         Lengthy game          Character development Cons
Slow to start          Horse-riding can be tricky (but the fails are HILARIOUS)          A few bugs (rare, but can affect quests) Conclusion: Red Dead Redemption II was worth the 8 year wait. RDR2 takes strides over its predecessor and rivals GTA5 as Rockstar’s best game. For such a huge game, RDR2 manages to excel in immersing the player into a whole new world. Overall, Red Dead Redemption II earns a 9 out of 10 for an excellent story, attention to detail, and incredible world. I look forward to seeing what the online version has to offer.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Review

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Review
Released on October 5th, 2018 Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is the latest installment in the AC franchise. The game takes the player back to Ancient Greece and the Peloponnesian War which pit Athens against Sparta. In a first for the franchise, players can choose either a male or female mercenary—Alexios or Kassandra, who are siblings. This choice does not affect the story line and just allows for slight customization for the player. Your job as a mercenary is to reap the benefits of war while investigating the Cult of Kosmos, a secret society hellbent on controlling all of Greece.
Odyssey introduces open world exploration and a choice/consequence mechanism, moving the series toward an Open World RPG genre. The map is huge, even for Assassin's Creed and allows for your character to sail from island to island, fighting pirates or pillaging merchant ships along the way. After about 20 hours of game play, I had uncovered about 1/4 of the map. As with all Assassin's Creed games, the focus is on figuring out who is trying to kill you and takeover the world, in this case the powerful Cult of Kosmos. The cult is comprised of dozens and dozens of rich, power-hungry members that you must hunt down to uncover more clues.
There are a lot of really interesting aspects to Assassin's Creed Odyssey and the character development will ensure you remember your character for a long time to come (We miss you though, Ezio). Venturing through Ancient Greece is beautiful and captivating, and the story is incredibly interesting--et tu, papa? If you break the law, you'll end up with a bounty and mercenaries will attempt to chase you down. Kill or be killed.
As with most AC titles, you have a beloved mount but now you also have a ship. Both of these are customizable with skins, and the ship is able to be upgraded. While most of these customizations are bought or earned in game, there are quite a few options that require real world purchases. There are also "time savers" available for purchase but not enough to include this as a "pay to win" title. Ultimately, you can easily enjoy the game without feeling like you have to spend more money or that you'll fall behind your friends if they throw money at the game.
Pros
Graphics Open world exploration Naval combat and ship customization Combat system improved A lengthy game Choices have consequences Cons
Minor bugs and glitches Occasional texture loss Convoluted story Conclusion: Assassin’s Creed Odyssey takes the series in a new, incredible direction that is worth playing. The strides that Odyssey takes with choices and naval combat are much greater than the issues with the game. You must learn who to help and to trust, the wrong decisions will have consequences. In the end, there were bugs and glitches; some causing an untimely demise. However, they were few, far in between, and patched within a few days for the most part. There certainly weren't enough glitches that it hurt the immersion...they mostly just created some laughs. Overall, Assassin's Creed Odyssey earns an 8 out of 10 and I'd definitely recommend it.

The Final Push

On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, TG's Tactical Warfare 2nd Corps Battlefield Division will gather together to bid farewell to a game we've had fun playing for two years: Battlefield 1.

This event takes place one hundred years -- to the day --from the cease fire agreement that was signed on 11:00 a.m., 11 November 1918, ending World War I. In addition to being an opportunity to game together as the entirety of TG’s Battlefield Division, the event is meant to underscore the special relationship that the World War I Allies share to this present day. Most of all, our banding together is to honor those that have fallen -- not only in this "Great War," but also in World War II, as this day is a Day of Remembrance every year (Remembrance Day, Armistice Day, Veteran's Day).

The Final Push begins at 11:00 a.m., EST (4 p.m. BST) on Sunday, the 11th, and lasts as long as there are members gaming together. All division members are encouraged to game particularly with members from opposite battalions.

IamJoker, XB1/2nd BTN XO, will be renting a private server, UK/EU based. We expect some latency issues, so it’s likely we will also be gaming on a public server, North American-based.

We’re hoping that members will take screenshots, game footage, and share interesting stories from the day, accomplishments, etc. Plans are to post these and make a montage for preservation for future Battlefield squads.

This goodbye to Battlefield 1 has been a team effort since day one; from l24n_d0m, PS4/2nd/Shropshire SA who came up with the idea, to XB1/1st CO TG The Messiah who named it, to XB1/2nd XO IamJoker who originally thought of tying the day’s Mandatory Practice into Remembrance Day and renting a private server, to all those participating in the discussions in the headquarters and general-discussion channels on Discord... get ready for The Final Push!

LoL Clan Wars Tournament

League of Legends - Clan Wars Tournament
With the end of the year fast approaching and winter setting in, staying inside is a lot more favourable these days. However, this is a good thing for the players of League of Legends as something exciting is coming.
To find out more about the upcoming event, i spoke to JaiyoHD, Assistant Competition Officer, who was more than happy to answer some questions about it:

TG SmokeyB: So I hear there is something big coming to LoL, can you explain to myself and TG what is coming?
JaiyoHD: In the first week of December, there will be a League of Legends tournament where TG will be competing against other big clans. The tournament will be spread out over four days and will hopefully be the first in many to come.

TG SmokeyB: What is the schedule for the tournament?
JaiyoHD: The tournament will be starting on Monday the 3rd of December and will finish on Thursday the 6th of December. The tournament will be running for 4 consecutive days so Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Each day one round of the tournament will be played meaning that there are 4 rounds in total. Games will begin around 7 PM GMT. On Monday and Tuesday, the round of 16 and quarterfinals will be played. They will both be best of three single elimination games. The semi-final will be played on Wednesday and the final and third-place match will be played on Thursday. All the games on Wednesday and Thursday will be best of five single elimination games.

TG SmokeyB: Can you tell us some of the pre-tournament rules?
JaiyoHD: To make sure that the tournament runs smoothly some pre-tournament rules were created so that no issues should arise during the tournament. Teams must comprise of 5 members minimum and are allowed to sign up with two substitutes. Teams must announce if they are using a substitute three hours prior to the games starting so that opposing team has time to review strategies, picks, and bans. If a team does not announce the substitute three hours prior to the start of the match they will lose all their bans for that day’s games. Lastly, we made a check in rule meaning that one of the two team leaders must check in an hour prior to the match starting to make sure that they are present and ready to play.

TG SmokeyB: Are there any in-game rules we should know about?
JaiyoHD: The in game rules are quite straightforward. No hacking or scripting and each team has a 15 minutes pause, if the issue cannot be solved within those 15 minutes they will either surrender or continue to play.

TG SmokeyB: What made you want to create this tournament?
JaiyoHD: One day I messaged the former HCO, TG The Punisher, with the idea of creating an event spotlighting 5 or 6 big games and having multiple tournaments for each game playing against other big clans. This would be a sort of Clan Olympics where each clan will get points depending on where there teams place in each tournament and eventually there being one winner with the most overall points. We decided that if we ever wanted this to happen we would need to run smaller tournaments first, to test run this idea and see how smoothly these tournaments would run. We came to the conclusion that a League of Legends tournament would be the perfect place to start and to go from there depending on how this tournament goes. Hopefully, it all goes to plan and we can start making these tournaments a regular occurrence also looking to start some in other divisions.

TG SmokeyB: Who else is involved in running the tournament?
JaiyoHD: TG The Punisher, the former HCO, helped me send in the sponsorship request. PoshGirl, the current LO for League of Legends, has been the main point of contact for TG teams and has been a great help in getting the TG teams interested. Otherwise, most of the organising and communicating with other clans has been done by myself.

TG SmokeyB: What is the signup deadline date?
JaiyoHD: There is no official sign up deadline but realistically we would like the 16 teams to be set around the 12th of November.

TG SmokeyB: How can people find out more information?
JaiyoHD: People can message me on the website or on Discord and I will gladly answer all questions.

TG SmokeyB: Is there any other important information you would like to share with TG?
JaiyoHD: f anyone would be interested in helping me organise more competitions, like this for other divisions, go ahead and send me a message either on the website or Discord!

An interesting time indeed for League of Legends. Great to see completions continue to appear. Great work to the Competition Team!
Thank you very much JaiyoHD for helping with this article.
