Call Of Duty Modern Warfare

Call Of Duty : Modern Warfare

Ladies and gentleman boys and girls it may finally be that time. For soooooooo many years I have been getting more and more depressed with the direction taken with the call of duty franchise but there is finally something to look forwards to coming out of Activision Studios. Activision and Infinity ward are once again working together on a new Call of Duty simply called modern warfare and thankfully it is not a remake or Remaster. At the moment the information coming out on the Multiplayer side of things is extremely limited other than they appear to be opting out of the current battle royale scene and taking call of duty in a different direction.

Call Of Duty has never been one for realism and at the start of the research for this article I didn’t expect to use that word here but my god does this looks good. Ok starting off the game is running on a completely new Graphics engine so have finally moved away from the old quake 3 engine that was simply getting updated every few years and the results are beautiful. The game is set to start of with the 60hz high frame rate expected with 4K support, HDR compatibility as well as Ray tracing which allows the engine to simulate the way that light behaves realistically in the virtual environment.

This creates some incredibly accurate levels of light and dark in different missions and is beautifully shown in the footage when the squad pulls down there night visions goggles and instead of the well-worn and used simple green filter you are given a true experience. However it is not just the graphics which are getting this game hype, the story is shaping up to be gloomy, edgy and relevant to the world today but before then they have completely revamped the physics of the game. The game creators have literally photographed and scanned thousands of items, textures and materials and scanned them directly into the game from everything like burnt out cars to pieces of fabric.

Characters run at a true 1:1 ratio creating a claustrophobic feel when stacking up or clearing corridors. The classic blind fire through a wall or door with FMJ (like the good old days of MW2) equipped  technique now being taken over by a new sense of realism as bullets have their trajectory  influenced by the material they hit, the angle fired and the penetration creates different unpredictable exit paths depending on the rounds used, and distance fired from. The AI are also set to react so if you start firing along a line through a wall expect them to get the hell out of the way. The sound engine which is fully Dolby Atmos compatible, has even been designed to react to the bullet casings hitting the floor, the wall and even the size of the round used comes into it.

Now onto the story, the game has been brought up to date with the stories influencing the campaign “being ripped from the headlines” but shows the terror and fear of war. Early reports indicate that half the game you will be playing as a tier 1 specialist as part of a highly trained squad. Through their eyes you will see the horrors of war and the desperation of those caught up in them, one of the missions sees a woman using her own baby as a human shield and the choice being yours to take the shot or not. The other half is centered around the perspective of a CIA agent named Alex embedded with the middle eastern forces in a fictional country where a Russian general was brought in to fight terrorism but has gone too far, with towns being bombed and hit by nova gas you also play as 2 children waking up in one of the towns and wandering around the destroyed town in a haze of gas trying to stay hidden and find their family among the fallout and devastation.

For those of you who remember the “No Russian” mission you will be reminded of how violent the Call Of Duty Development team can be as you fire round after round into Civilian after civilian. Once more the team are bringing that feeling and moment back into the genre but this time with a vengeance as they are aiming to instill a true sense of fear, realism and a new shadier edge to the franchise. The game is set to be thought provoking, culturally relevant and incredibly accurate while providing the original call of duty experience. From terrorist attacks in London, heart wrenching decisions and the war torn Middle East told through the eyes of a child it’s hard to remember this is only the campaign.

Now the only information on multiplayer so far is that they are scrapping the season pass and the map releases are set to be free for everyone once they get released as well as coop missions with your squads. They are currently pushing for Cross platform on PC Xbox and PS4 but the details of how that is intended to be implemented is unknown. Personally I cant see it working out balanced for players considering the difference in power between top of the range gaming computers and the consoles on the market at the moment. Also it has been confirmed that zombies will not be making a return to this edition of Call Of Duty as it would clash with the hyper-realistic aesthetic that the game is going for.

Now usually at the E3 event games are shown with there full reveal trailer as well clips of multiplayer and certain high profile moments to build hype way before the game even releases. This time however we were robbed of this and instead were given a panel interview with 3 members of the infinity ward team and 2 screenshots teasing us more. credit where credit is due the screenshots look impressive and are shown above and below this paragraph. now the interview is worth a watch if you are very interested in keeping up with the game before release but if you are hoping for a sneak peak at footage then you will be in for a wait. the only multiplayer footage shown at E3 were to several youtubers and media sources which were forced to sign non disclosure agreements. how long we have to wait for those agreements to be void we do not know as of now.

So what we know is that the game engine has been overhauled ridiculously, the single player is to take on a more psychological role with added realism, multiplayer maps will be free Captain Price has returned……..(albeit with a new voice actor).

Personally that’s enough for me to be looking into buying a call of duty game for the first time in a long time and i am looking forwards to the release on PC, Xbox and Playstation on October the 25th.
