343 Industries to Shut Off Live Services for Halo Titles
It is the end of an era for online Halo games. 343 Industries said in a statement, “We are shutting down multiplayer servers for Halo games at the end of 2021.” It seems they want to make way for future development of Halo: Infinite, by increasing the server capacity and allowing developers more time to release patches, considering COVID-19 has had a serious impact on development.
343 Industries said in a statement regarding The Halo Titles, “Well, unfortunately, it truly is nearly time to say goodbye to that era." In a post on Halo Waypoint, 343 Industries announced that online support would be impacted for Halo 5, Halo 4, Halo: Reach, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Spartan Assault, and Halo Wars.
Halo has largely been the defining series for the creation of online gaming. Seeing that they are shutting down all live servers to accommodate their new title, seems to be an interesting decision. They are really putting all of their eggs in one basket, increasing hype of Halo Infinite and completely scrapping Halo 5.
The server sunsetting will also apply to the “Master Chief Collection” on PC. They want to drought the community to have a record breaking release for Halo: Infinite, which will be available on PC, and Xbox series X/S- “It will remain a PC and Xbox exclusive indefinitely”, says Bonnie Ross, the CEO of 343 Industries.
This means a few things for TG, but mainly it means the Halo 5 Division will have to be put on pause, and re-branded for Halo: Infinite after release. Yikes!! Seems like this is going to cause a lot of problem for that division.
Hope everyone is having an outstanding April Fools Day- >:D
